This Holiday season has been described by many fashionistas and industry experts as the best season for fashion in many years. Legwear is definitely back on the scene with a vengeance! Read on to find out more about our inspiration in designing the Silks Legwear Collection and the "must-have" hosiery styles and colours you will want in your hosiery drawer this season.
We scour international runway and fashion trend reports when crafting our vision for our seasonal collections, as well as attending LG Fashion Week and other designer shows. Here's what we see as the four indispensible looks for Holiday 2009, moving into Spring 2010:
After many years of absence, suits are back! We saw tons of skirt and pant suits on the runways. Powerful women such as Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, First Lady of France, have influenced designers and fashion press alike to focus on this trend. Watch for feminine tailored silhouettes with extended shoulders (pull those shoulder pads out of your drawers!)
Complete the look with sophisticated, classic patterned hosiery. Pinstripes (Silks styles 7041, 7045 , 7369 and 7097), diamond patterns (Silks styles 7089, 7364 and 7370) or back-seam hosiery (Silks style 7043) all fit the bill this season.
Oh, so many dresses and skirts. The fashionable length this season is slightly above the knee, although we still see a lot of mini's and micro-mini's for those with gorgeous gams! Try fishnets or floral lace stockings to really strut your stuff. (Silks styles 7367 and 7206) Soft sweaters are paired with thigh-high boots and leggings (Silks style 7346, 9060 and 1965).
Knee Hi's look fresh and fun with shorter skirts. Designers really loved this look in their runway collections this season, so take a gander at our fashion knee hi collection for some ideas!
The "Must Have" Item. Leggings are the perfect item to wear this holiday season. Wear them with a sweater for a casual look or add a sequin top and a blazer and you are ready for any holiday party. Watch for Silks new "Ultimate Legging" available in stores in December. Our new legging is so comfortable to wear and makes you look and feel fantastic.
Sensuous fabrics and luxurious styling details lend themselves to sophisticated, glamorous styling, keying in on soft romantic silhouettes. There is a great hunger for a return to dressing up, as glamour dressing for daytime is now deemed acceptable. High sheen, glittery and reflective fabrics are a strong part of this look along with beads and sequins. There were plenty of metallic fabrics on the runways, with bronze and copper looks being the standouts. Our luxurious new Silks Desire Collection is the perfect compliment and our Silks Shimmer Collection really enhances the glam look, as do our Premium Sheen Tights style 1956.
Grey predominates many of the designer lines and will continue to be strong as a classic. (Check out Grigio, Night Grey and Grey Heather in Silks) Of course black is there as a staple, as always. Overall, colours are fairly neutral although there are shots of colour here and there-rich jewel tones such as our Winter Blue and Purple Passion act as a real compliment to grey and black suitings.
