Legwear Trends and Colours

Looking back at fashion history, vivid patterns have always set a trend towards brighter times.  Italian trend analyst Andrea Dall ‘Olio recently said, “A feeling of optimism is the most important thing this Spring”. Legwear patterns this season will be guaranteed mood lifters!

Inspiration for Silks® Spring/Summer 2010 Legwear Collection

• The mood changes this season with inspiration drawn from the glamorous 60’s and 70’s,  combined with a subtle yet sophisticated tribal look. Womenswear is inspired by the safari-esque vibe set by the exotic “glamazons” like Veruschka, Marie Helvin and Iman.
• One of the strongest looks this season is the tribal theme, as designers draw on diverse sources for inspiration such as Africa and the South American rainforests - inspiring prints, patterns and colours.
• Key colours this season are sandy neutrals, earth tone oranges, Serengeti yellows and baked terra cottas accented with purple-cast aubergine and black.
• Key silhouettes are sexy safari-inspired casuals, drapey all-in-ones, one-shouldered goddess dresses, kaftans and 70’s inspired pant shapes.

Key Legwear Trends for Spring/Summer 2010

Our Silks Collection is focused around three key seasonal themes that we see as the predominant looks in fashion this season:

• Gypsy Lady- Inspired by the exotic and eclectic beauty of the Middle East, their way of life, fashion and culture, we have created patterns like paisley (Styles 7047 and 7378) and geometric looks as seen in styles 7376 and 9037.
• Warrior Princess- This season we embrace the tribal theme and the power of nature.  Show your sense of adventure when wearing Silks style 7377 leopard print tights.
• Greek Goddess-Drawing our inspiration from the beauty of Greece and the exotic and graceful beauty of Aphrodite herself, we interpreted this softer influence into elaborate brocades and floral looks (Styles 7049, 9038 and 9084).

For more classic, every day wear we want to emphasize these two legwear looks:

• Bare Minimum-With lots of delicate fabrics on the runway, this season a pair of nude sheers will be the perfect accessory.
• Leg Up- Leggings are here to stay, and knit hosiery leggings have a smoother fit, a comfortable waistband and no seams down the leg.  Every season leggings are the key legwear piece to compliment a variety of outfits, whether you are wearing a tunic or a dress.

The “Hot” Colours

• Earth Tones- Browns, oranges and reds will make a come back this season as tribal wear becomes the new trend.  Brown coloured tights and sheers will again become a staple. Check out Moka and Copper.
• Neutrals- Pair Naturale from our Silks Desire Collection or Natural from our Silks collection for a bare-legged look.
• Metallics- Silvers and metallic-like colours like Metal really compliment the “Gypsy Lady” trend.
